Rim’s Fine Jewelry

Ikhwan Rim is a third-generation jeweler who succeeded his late father. A craft passed down from Mr. Rim's grandfather which predates the Korean war, 24 karat gold is manufactured in their small shop on Union Street.

Rim recalls early memories of his father's first shop in Manhattan, requiring his entire family to work from home all night, polishing and hammering gold by hand. Eventually, the Rims moved their shop to Flushing on Union Street where there were over 100 Korean businesses.

Being one of the few Korean jewelers at the time that manufactured 24k gold, the Rims started their business selling "dol banji" or birthday rings for traditional Korean first birthday celebrations. Today Ikhwan has expanded his business to include online retail and 3D printing and casting. He runs his shop with his mother, Rim Hwa Soon, and his wife, and one day hopes that his son will continue Rim's legacy in jewelry making.
