Koreatown of Flushing

HAN IN TOWN (한인타운) is my love letter to Flushing, the heart of New York City's Koreatown. I grew up meandering through all the corners of Flushing. From following my mom as a child through the aisles of Assi Plaza to spending the late hours at karaokes and pochas, each memory evokes nostalgia and a feeling of home. This project is dedicated to all the moms and pops who fed me, cut my hair, and sacrificed everything for the next generation of Korean Americans.

About

  • Janice Chung

Janice Chung is a Korean American photographer born and raised in Queens, New York City. Through her work, Chung amplifies and deconstructs her Korean American heritage by capturing moments that are deeply personal. In doing so, she sheds light on the intricate details of immigrant and diasporic life while straddling the two places she calls home, New York and South Korea.
