Northern Wang Mandoo

노던 왕만두

Jinglan and her parents run Northern Wang Mandoo on Northern Blvd in Flushing. Wang, which means king in Korean, and Mandoo, which means dumpling, refers to their large steamed dumplings filled with various stuffing such as red bean paste and pork and kimchi. The shop, originally opened by Jinglan’s aunt, sells a variety of dumplings, fried donuts, noodles, and more.

Jinglan, who is from the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Northeast China, recounts her experiences with discrimination from both Korean American and Chinese American communities alike.

But through time and consistent quality food, people came to respect Northern Wang Mandoo and what it had to offer. Today Jinglan hopes to continue to share her love of food, which blends Korean and Chinese flavors, with the masses.
